The Spikes Quilt Tutorial | Scrap Quilt | Rotary Cutting | AccuQuilt | Free Quilt Pattern

 I used scraps for the accent fabrics and a light fabric for the background. This could be all scrappy if you use an assortment of low volume prints for the background.


Finished Size: 60" x 84"
Block Finished Size: 6"
Number of Blocks: 130
Setting: 10 x 13





The blocks are Half Rectangle Trianglse. You can use seeral different tools to cut them accurately:


Fabric Requirements

If you have about a 4" x 8" piece of scrap fabric fore each of the accent faric adn background, you can make one block.


From one fat quarter of accent fabric, you can get 10 blocks. So, 13 accent fabric fat quarters will work.

Background: - 2.5 yds
Binding: - .75 yards

Rotary Cutting

  • Cut a 6.5" strip of fabric
  • With right sides facing up, follow the cutting instructions that came with your ruler to cut two triangles.

AccuQuilt Cutting

Using pieces at least 4" x 8" place up to 6 layers of fabric, right side up on the die. Place mat on top and cut.

Quilt Layout

The odd number rows are placed as shown. Using 10 blocks, the points are up, right, up right, etc.
The even number rows are placed as shown. Using 10 blocks, the points are left, down, left, down, etc.
