Besides being a fun quilt to make, this sew along will be a study of the HST and how versitile this unit is in quiltmaking. We will also explore the definition and use of low volume prints (LVP).

I'm not a big fan of mystery quilts so here is the layout of the finished quilt. The blocks will be a bit of a mystery.

Finished size approx 62" x 77"

Block 1

The blocks finish at 13" and are made from 16 @ 3" finished HST plus a 1/2" finished frame. For the scrappy version you will need medium dark / dark fabrics and LVP.

Sashings are LVP. Cornerstones and binding are medium dark / dark fabrics.

Fabric Options

Not everyone has a big selection of LVP so you can choose to use one light fabric for all the blocks and/or sashings. Another option is to use a single light fabric for each block. The same options can be used for the dark fabrics. Here are some examples.

This block has one light fabric for the HST and one dark fabric for the frame.
The dark side of the HST are assorted.

This block is totally scrappy using assorted lights for the HST and assorted darks for the HST and frame.

This is the two fabric option using 1 light and 1 dark from each block.

Borders

As I was working on the sample quilt and finished the top, I thought it might look great with a border or two. Maybe a border made entirely of HST!!??  Here are some suggestions using 1, 2 or 3 rows of HST.

First add a 1/2" finished (1" cut) border all the way around.
