1205 Spinning Rails Quilt Block Tutorial | Block of the Day 2023

This block is jelly Roll (2-1/2" strip) friendly. Fabrics for this block can be coordinated, completely scrappy or anywhere in between. Use full WOF 2-1/2” strips or partial strips. This is your chance to use those fabrics you’re not so crazy about.

Fabric and Cutting the Spinning Rails Quilt Block

AccuQuilt Dies55159, 55715 or 8” Qube Shape 8.

For strip piecing use 2-1/2” strip cutter to cut WOF strips.

For both fabrics - A – 4 @ 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” rectangles
OR use 1 strip @ 2-1/2” x 19” for strip piecing.

Piecing the Spinning Rails Quilt Block

1. Using the A patches, make 4 rail fence units shown.

For strip piecing, sew a light and dark strip together lengthwise. Press the seam. Cut the strip set into 8 segments @ 4-1/2”. There will be about 6” left for the scrap box.

The 8 segments will make 2 identical 8” finished blocks.

See instructions in video description for 3 different quilt sizes.
